Nestling in the heart of the Shigaraki Mountains, the Miho Museum opened its doors in 1997 under the initiative of Mihoko Koyama who wanted to "promote beauty, peace and joy through art". The collection includes Japanese works of art inspired by ancient cultures. The museum was designed by the architect I.M. Pei, designer of the pyramid of the Louvre Museum. The path leading to the museum is remarkable, especially in spring with the avenue lined with cherry trees. The museum closes regularly between exhibitions. Check the diary on the site.
