This fortress, now in ruins, was built in the 1200s. It was then the seat of the mighty Earls of Buchan. In the 1500s, it was transformed into an elegant dwelling. Today the castle is remarkable for its impressive curtain walls, specific to 13th century military architecture in Scotland.
