With nearly 245,000 inhabitants, Norfolk is the second largest city in the state after its neighbour Virginia Beach. Don't be surprised if you meet many uniformed soldiers, as the city is home to the world's largest naval airbase. This is where the majority of the US Navy's aircraft carriers are located. Apart from that, Norfolk is a rather pleasant city, which is a good stopover between the two shores of Chesapeake Bay, since the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, a 28 km long bridge that offers absolutely breathtaking views, connects it to the eastern shore of the bay.
