OBONG'S PALACE

The white building with its red roof, adorned with an eagle statue, is of little architectural interest in itself. But if you plan ahead, you should know that the Obong - King and traditional ruler of the Efik people - receives audiences every Tuesday in his palace. All you need to do is make a formal request by post, or get to know the right people. This meeting will not only give you the opportunity to visit the interior of his residence, but above all to learn more about the history of Calabar, as well as the enduring traditions and customs of the Efik people.
