Festival dedicated to Osun, goddess of fertility, ten days of offerings, processions and sacred rituals, listed by UNESCO.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Osun-Osogbo festival takes place every August in the sacred forest of Osogbo. It celebrates the river goddess Osun, deity of fertility. For ten days, processions, rituals and dances attract pilgrims, artists and tourists in a vibrant, mystical atmosphere. The high point is the final ceremony, when the Arugba, a young girl chosen by the oracle, carries the sacred calabash as an offering to Osun on behalf of the community.
