Established in 1979, the Centre des arts et des civilisations noirs et africains (Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilizations) exhibits works from the2nd WorldFestival of African Arts and Culture, held in Lagos in 1977. The Centre regularly organizes shows, conferences and exhibitions, and hosts an art bookshop. Although the place sometimes smells a little dusty, some very fine pieces are on display, including terracotta sculptures from the Nok civilization, a collection of period photographs and a large number of paintings in eclectic styles.
