Built in 1976 to host the Festival of Black and African Arts and Culture (FESTAC '77), the National Theatre remains one of Lagos' iconic buildings. Inspired by the shape of a military kepi, it can accommodate up to 5,000 spectators in its main auditorium, and even more in its secondary spaces. Although it now hosts very few performances, the venue retains a strong symbolic power. Visitors can admire its monumental architecture and stroll freely across the vast lawns that surround it.
