Much more than a park, Freedom is one of Lagos' cultural hotspots, which regularly hosts concerts, and it is one of the favourite stages of the Felabration and more generally of Afrobeat. Its name is a nod to history, since the site was formerly Her Majesty's colonial prison from 1882 to independence. Destroyed in 1979, the building was converted into a park to celebrate 50 years of independence in 2010. Note that the park hosts one of the only vegan restaurants (on the go) in town: Veggie Victory!
