A small mountain lake with excellent water quality for summer swimming.

This small mountain lake of almost 1.5 km² is best known for its abundant fishing. It's said that even Emperor Maximilian I of Austria used to cast his line here! Small leisure centres are set up along the water's edge. The Heiterwangersee lake and its neighboring Plansee lake together form the second-largest lake in Tyrol. The quality of the lake water is very good, and in summer the water temperature is ideal for swimming. Diving is permitted (only in certain areas of the lake) and is very popular.
