SCULPTURE AND DESERT

Ras Abrouq is a fascinating moonscape of geological fungi, white mountains of limestone carved by erosion called hofuf in an ancient Miocene river plain. This is where Richard Serra's sculpture East West / West East is located. The American sculptor created this life-size work. Four steel plates of 15 meters high are aligned for dozens of meters, in the middle of the vastness of the desert. They "connect the seas to the east and west of this landscape ", explained the artist.
