Kitgum, a provincial town of some 45,000 souls, was severely affected by the LRA insurgency and has little tourist appeal. However, this city, on the fringes of the tourist circuit, can be a salutary stopover for supplies (money, foodstuffs, fuel, etc.) and to soak up the atmosphere of a somewhat forgotten provincial agglomeration. Apart from the peripheral Acaki Lodge, the city's hotel infrastructure leaves something to be desired. Via Gulu, 100 km away, the road to/from Kampala is fully paved. The Post Bus company serves Kitgum daily.
