Museum of Unity
Founded in 1966 and renovated in 2002, Ibadan's Unity Museum retains a slightly old-fashioned charm, but remains an interesting stopover, as it is one of the best-organized national museums in the country. It houses a rich collection of Benin bronzes, Nok heads, everyday objects and spiritual artifacts from the Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo cultures. A fine overview of Nigeria's cultural diversity. A guided tour (approx. 1 hr) is recommended: the guides bring the exhibits to life through stories, anecdotes and explanations of their ritual or symbolic use.
