Casper is a small town at two-hour drive northwest of Cheyenne. It is, let us admit, a little lost in the middle of nowhere. It is not a tourist destination of prime choice but if on the way to Yellowstone or Grand Teton, or in the other direction, towards Cheyenne, you are in the vicinity, the city can be a practical step to cut off the road. There are a few restaurants. Enjoy typical cuisine, steak houses firerock Steakhouse and The Silver Fox are probably among the city's best addresses. There are a few chain hotels and in summer the possibility to sleep in fishing booths, including the Cowboy Drifters, Trout on Inn, or the Wyoming Fly Fishing Lodges. It is a much more authentic experience, close to nature.A short drive from there to the east is the Fort Fetterman Historic Site, one of the forts built on the Bozeman trail. The site is visited in summer.
