A dorsal epine of the mountain chain of the Big Horn, a chain isolated from the rest of the Rockies by the Bighorn Basin, it is one of the oldest forests since its creation in 1897. Bighorn National Forest extends west of Sheridan and Buffalo over 4,500 km ².Named after the river of the same name, it is a true natural paradise mainly composed of twisted pine and several conifer species including fir trees. It is populated with black bears, very widespread, but also other predators such as puma or coyote. It also hosts many cervids and smaller mammals. Its waters are considered very rich in fish and trout and make it a favorite destination for fishermen. On the road to Sheridan in Cody, you will be forced to cross part of the forest between mountain landscapes, vertiginous canyons and gypsy concrete painted valleys. A wonderful show. If you have the opportunity, take a little more time to dive into the heart of its Cloud Peak Wilderness protected area.
