At the border between Utah and Wyoming, this national monument is a protected area for its geological diversity. In the past three lakes covered the region, Fossil, Gosiute and Uinta. Fossil Butte is located on the former fossil lake location, which was 80 kilometers long and 32 kilometers wide. The fossils found on the site are an incredible paleontological testimony of aquatic species living in North America during the era of the Cenozoic era. Don't miss the Visitor Center, which displays a superb collection of reptile fossils, birds, plants, fish, mammals and amphibians. The park, shaped by calcareous hills, also offers beautiful landscapes to explore during a hike.
