Every December 16 and 17, Bahrain celebrates its national holiday with fireworks, concerts and late-night entertainment.
Although Bahrain's independence dates back to August 15, 1971, it is not celebrated. The official national holiday is set for December 16, the day Emir Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa came to power in 1961. December 16 and 17 are public holidays: numerous fireworks displays light up the capital, accompanied by concerts, parades and cultural events. The "Manama Doesn't Sleep" program brings the city to life for almost 12 hours, with exhibitions and shows extending the celebration late into the night. A moment of national pride.
