Situated on seven hills on the banks of the Kolva River, nicknamed the "Princess of the Mountains", Chernodyne (population 4634) was the capital of the Great Perm Principality from 1451 to 1505. It is one of the oldest cities in Russia and as such is included in the list of historical cities. The poet Ossip Mandelstam, author of the Epigram against Stalin, was sentenced to exile there in 1933. The town is surrounded by the ancient dwellings Pokcha, Vilgort, Nyrob, forming the architectural ensemble belonging to the protection of historic territories. Chernyshin is 300 km north of Perm and about 90 km from Solikamsk, the nearest railway station
