The village of Palacios is regarded as the "door" of the Moskitia. At the time of colonization, the English became allies of the Miskito. We can still see today the remains of British cannons in the house of Don Pablo Everett. Currently, the population is composed mainly of Métis and some Garifuna (there are many small Garifuna villages in the vicinity). Above all, it is a city of passage that has gradually lost its importance with the suspension of air connections.
