Nelson is a small town located on the Glenelg River, 3 km from the border with South Australia with less than 200 inhabitants at the 2016 census. The origin of its name dates back to January 1852, the name Nelson was adopted after the ship Lady Nelsonwhich was used by Lieutenant James Grant in his explorations of the area in the early 19th century. For the historical anecdote, the Lady Nelson was the first ship to reach Australia through the Bass Strait and not through Tasmania. The main attraction of the village is the Lower Glenelg National Park and the proximity of the Princess Margaret Rose Caves.
