FÊTE DE L'ENCAMISADA

Celebrated on a weekend in mid-January, the Encamisada festival echoes a more or less attested historical episode according to which, at the beginning of the 18th century, on Saint Anthony's Day, villagers would have ambushed French soldiers in the middle of the night. While a thick fog hung over the area, the men of the village put on white shirts to make themselves invisible to the enemy and emerged victorious from their surprise attack. Since then, every year, a great festival celebrates this episode.
