Upernavik ("the place of spring" as it used to be a popular destination for spring trade and fishing) is a town located on a small island of the same name between Baffin Bay and Melville Bay. Founded in 1772, it is the twelfth largest city in Greenland with 1,180 inhabitants. The population has remained fairly stable or even increased over the last two decades with the arrival of inhabitants from the small villages of the archipelago. If this region is not very touristy, it offers a magnificent adventure terrain dotted with thousands of islands and the largest bird cliffs in the world (Apparsuit).
