This border crossing (Vendkalimi kufitar i integruar Merdare, Administrativni prelaz Merdare) is the most important of the six crossing points between Serbia and Kosovo. Established by the EU in 2012 and run by the Kosovo police, it sees about 3,000 people pass through daily with an average wait of one hour (up to eight hours before the 2020 renovation). It will soon be served by the "Peace Highway" (European road E80) between Pristina and Niš, on which work began in late 2021.
