As soon as I arrived in Gambia, I went to visit the snake farm, located in Kartong, a small village on the border with Senegal. It is run by Luc, a very friendly Frenchman who has lived in Gambia for several years and who, passionate about nature, takes in sick or injured animals. He is helped by his wife, Mariatou, an excellent cook, and his charming children who are delighted to introduce visitors to snakes, turtles, chameleons, among other species. The tour of the site is very interesting and we learn a lot about the species collected. A few years ago, Luc found a python of Asian origin in the Gambian forest, probably abandoned by a European. Unable to let this species reproduce in an ecological system that is not his own, Luc now shelters it on his farm. It is little Amy, her adopted daughter, who takes care of her every day, and who has made her her a pet. I would like to try the experience of carrying this snake weighing more than 30 kg on my shoulders. Luc and his sons put it around my neck as best they can, and Amy comes to help me wear it for a photo. A memorable memory!
