Lisala is the capital of the province of Mongala, from the river of the same name which marks the northern boundary of the territory, located on the right bank of the Congo River. It was here that Marshal Mobutu was born on October 14, 1930. The region relies mainly on agricultural resources (rice, cassava, coffee, cocoa, rubber, etc.) and fishing. Lisala is an important crossing point for river traffic, halfway between Mbandaka and Kisangani. It is at Bumba, 150 km from Lisala, that the river really comes into its own, stretching over a width of 20 km. The Lisala area comprises three sectors: Mongala, Ngombe-Doko, Ngombe-Mombangi.
