EQUATOR MONUMENT (TUGU KHATULISTIWA)

Located in Khatulistiwa Park, the Equator Monument is Pontianak's landmark. Built in 1928 by a Dutch geographer, it marks the exact location of the division between north and south. An Indonesian architect built a new structure in 1938, retaining the original monument inside. The monument was then completely renovated in 1990, with the addition of a protective dome and a copy of the monument five times larger than the original.
