Joining Tombwa by car from the Namibe provincial capital is both easy and fast. Less than 100 km between these two cities - 90 km from the intersection of the airport - and the road is excellent outside few rares sand mounds on the road by the wind, especially by approaching Tombwa. This journey through the desert takes about fifty minutes. This short trip, however, plans visitors at the beginning of the th century, in the time of the whale fishermen…This small town built around a splendid bay with deep blue waters protected by a language of sand awakens the visitor's imagination. How do we not dream of this fishing port? How do we not try to represent Porto Alexandre in the th century? Its sheltered bay and its highly-fished waters attracted many fishermen from Algarve who settled there. Porto Alexandre became a municipality in 1895. It changed its name in 1975.In 2014, Tombwa gently came out of his numbness related to all these years of war, accentuated here by the sand ready to engulf the city. Children improvise "sledges" to glide proudly on the slopes of the first dunes at the southern exit of the city. However, the recovery of the fishing industry is noticeable.
