This basilica dedicated to Saint Sebastian was founded by Portuguese missionaries in the 16th century. It celebrates the feast of St. Sebastian in a particularly joyful way. This annual 10-day festival is held in January and is awaited by thousands of faithful from all over the state. They express their gratitude by dragging themselves on their knees from the nearby beach to the basilica. On the last day, a large religious procession leaves the church for the nearby beach.
