The memorial was inaugurated on 6 February 2002 by the President of the Republic, José Eduardo Dos Santos, 85 years after the disappearance of King Mandume in 1917. The visitor must preferably deposit tree leaves on the king's tomb before gathering. The guard can indicate on which tree the trees draw.

You can also visit, in the enclosure of the tourist complex, a revival of the king's traditional hut, called kimbo do Rei.
