Travel Guide Huambo

It is better not to arrive in the city at the end of September during the Gran Premio de Huambo. The city centre is blocked in traffic and the hotels are complete. The whole thing is very noisy too! It is, however, an opportunity to see this great provincial capital sleepy, attract crowds and animate. This car race made it famous internationally in the 1960 s.The Nova Lisboa foundation, or New Lisbon, in 1912 by the Portuguese, is linked to the construction of the Benguela Ferro Railway Line (CFB) connecting the port of Lobito to Katanga copper mines in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Huambo has already existed since the th century. At the time, it was one of the many relatively independent Ovimbundu kingdoms, albeit under the authority of the King of Bailundo. Roles have been reversed since the beginning of the twentieth century and Huambo, better situated on the route of the railway, has become a regional capital without Bailundo. In 1975 Huambo naturally took over his initial name.
