The slave trade is part of the history of Angola and its identity. Until the th century, it occupies a key role in the country's trade and contributes to the enrichment of ports of embarkation, from north to south, Malimbe, Cabinda, Mpinda, Ambriz, Luanda, Porto Ambouim (Benguela a Velha), Sumbe (Novo Redondo), Benguela and Namibe (Moçâmedes).
The national museum of slavery, housed in the th Century Ossos da Casa Grande, presents this trade in maps and engravings. A hundred objects relating to the slave trade are exposed on two levels. This chapel was one of the places where slaves were baptized, before being deported to America.
