The Sterkfontein Caves, officially owned by the University of the Witwatersrand, are a fairly must-see place in the Gauteng region. The site is prehistoric. Incredible fossils were found here, including an almost complete australopithecine skeleton, fossilized for three million years. The caves are impressive, you feel very small next to these gigantic chiselled walls. Sometimes natural pools have formed in the rock. Today, the place has been entirely fitted out to welcome tourists: footbridges, walkways, restaurant, or even a conference room
