Every Belarusian student knows that the first historic sites have been discovered in Yuroviči! In 1929, the inhabitants gathered the bones of a mammoth here. The archaeological excavations, carried out as a result of this discovery, reveal the remains of a former site dating back to life and th centuries B.C. Later, we discover the remains of a medieval citadel of the th century. Yuroviči is known today for its monastery of the Nativity, whose construction is due to the icon of the Virgin found in the early th century. The architectural ensemble includes the former Jesuit college, later recaptured by the bernardins monks, and the Catholic church, which became Orthodox after the 1863 uprising. Closed in the 1930 s, its premises are donated to the village orphanage. The monastery has been active again since 1993. Restoration work is under way.Yuroviči is located 140 km southwest of Gomel, not far from Mazyr.
