In 1910, some 1 200 souls lived in this beautiful mountain valley located in the south-east of the park, forming one of the largest communities in the Smoky Mountains. There are many typical buildings of this time. Wildlife observation can be particularly fruitful in the morning and in the evening in open fields. Nearby, the Boogerman Trail, a 7 miles loop, and the Little Cataloochee Trail, are very popular among hikers.
