Old steamboat listed in the National Historic Registry suggesting a 3 hour crossing to appreciate the splendor of the lake
The Katahdin is an old steamboat dating from 1914, which allowed locals to cross Moosehead Lake. Converted to diesel, it continues its peregrinations and now takes tourists on board for a 3-hour crossing. This is an opportunity to appreciate the splendour of the lake, its forest and Mount Kineo which overlooks it in an old ship registered in the National Historic Register. The ticket office is housed in a small maritime museum that presents some souvenirs from the steamboat era.
