Still in the Brokopondo district, Afobaka is a small village located just before the dam, with the small Afobaka airstrip next to it. But the main attraction is the Brokopondo artificial lake, which has become a popular spot for tourists: they come to relax by the water's edge and take advantage of the coolness of the place to camp on the sandbanks. Several lodges, from the simplest to the most luxurious, offer you the chance to spend a few days in this restful spot. The Afobaka resort is also a great place to swim in the river just before the dam. Walks are also possible in the surrounding area.
