ESPACE MUSÉAL D'ANDENNE - LE PHARE
The Espace Muséal d'Andenne, a new multi-modal place in the city of the Bears, and housing a contemporary museography
Recently and nicely restored, refurbished and even reinvented, the Espace Muséal d'Andenne is the new multimodal place of the city of the Bears. In addition to the reception point of the Tourist Office (clear, legible and well documented), there is the library installed in the former communal swimming pool. The EMA is above all the seat of the two main attractions of the city: ceramics and prehistoric remains.
Ceramics is an ancestral technique, developed in the region from ancient times to the present. The work, the knowledge and the know-how of the ceramic craftsmen through the ages are exposed through a contemporary and pleasant museography for all, locals or visitors. We discover how rich this technique is and how important it has been in the life of Andenne. It is easy to understand that the everyday objects presented must benefit from restoration and conservation techniques to continue to survive the centuries.
Prehistory also has a space and more specifically the Neanderthal period. A few kilometers from Andenne, excavations in the Scladina cave have brought to light the remains of a child who lived 127,000 years ago. The Sclayn Child has made it possible to study the DNA known to date as the oldest in the world. Visiting the space dedicated to these excavations is a way to participate in the scientific adventure.
At the top, the terrace offers a panoramic view of the region. The Lighthouse lives up to its name!
