SAINT-URSMER COLLEGIATE

The original building (Moustier Sainte-Marie) was built in Romanesque style in the ^12th century. In 1408, the Lobbes chapter came to Binche with relics, holy bodies and treasures. The monastery became a collegiate church, dedicated to Saint Ursmer. The present Gothic church was extensively restored in the ^16th and ^17th centuries, following the destruction of the neighboring castle of Marie de Hongrie by Henry II's troops. Inside, the rood screen is a perfect example of Renaissance art.
