This carnival, classified by Unesco, is the most famous and the most important in Belgium, whose central staff is the Gille.

The carnival of Binche is the most famous in Belgium, classified by Unesco. The Mardi Gras procession is huge. The pre-carnival or "Soumonces" period lasts 6 weeks and precedes the three "fat" days (from Sunday to Mardi Gras). The central character is the Gille, dancing to the sound of fifes, brass instruments, drums and a bass drum. There are more and more gilles in each of the 11 "societies". The gilles of Binche come out only one day (Tuesday). The other characters of the carnival are the Sailor, the Harlequin, the Peasant and the Pierrot.

Fête magnifique populaire. Ce carnaval se déroule durant les trois jours gras avec le mardi en apothéose. Il est préférable de venir le matin pour admirer les costumes.
