It is the second most representative religious building in Guadalajara. The city owes its construction to the Franciscan brothers who began the th century to pay tribute to the Virgin of the immaculate conception, known in Jalisco as the Virgin of Zapopan. The iconostasis in Corinthian style dates back to 1690.

Zapopan is a nice small village north of Hotel where the basilica is called

Nuestra Señora de Expectacion. Basilica with a dome mudéjar (hispano-moorish) and a plateresque façade.
