Also known as Kala Pani, this star-shaped penitentiary was built in the late 19th century by the British to imprison and isolate Indian nationalist dissidents. The 698 cells were divided into 7 wings, all starting from the central watchtower. Damaged by the Japanese during the Second World War, the prison nonetheless remains impressive. Today, it has been transformed into a memorial to the heroes of independence. There is a small museum at the entrance and a sound and light show in the evening.
