On the way to Newcastle, we pass through Irish Town, where many houses have kept their Irish names, witnesses of a colonial era still very present, and then Redlight, a small village where the soldiers of the nearby garrison used to come to party. Today, both villages are known for their hotels, nestled among lush bamboo and coffee plantations, with breathtaking views of the valley, Kingston and the sea in the background. Redlight is always lively, with a few colorful shacks spitting out a good reggae sound, locals at all hours, kids and adults alike. There is always a little atmosphere in the evening, a rarity in the Blues Mountains
