TURTLE STATUES

Outside the monastery compound, there are still two stone turtles. Once accompanied by two other models, they marked the boundaries of Kharkhorin. As a symbol of longevity, their mission was to protect the city. The closest one to the monastery is about 300 meters northwest of the exit. The second one stands more than a kilometer south of the monastery, on a small hill. From its summit, there is a breathtaking view of the city, its houses and the square plan of the monastery.
