Staðarskáli used to be the place where the bus line to the northwestern fjords left from; now the change is in Borgarnes. This was the only reason why some people stopped here. It is here that was built, in 1929, a service station to facilitate the journey Reykjavik/Akureyri because you will see it, the roads are long, and one crosses sometimes not large world. Since then, the place is a practical stop for many Icelanders and foreigners, for a meal break or a rest stop. Here, the Hrútafjörður, one of the deepest fjords in Iceland, separates the Western Fjords region from the rest of the country.
