Often overlooked in favor of the capital and the rest of the country, the Reykjanes peninsula is well worth a visit. To visit the southern part of the peninsula, you'll need a car. You can visit the fishing village of Grindavik, take a break at the Blue Lagoon or explore the Seltún geothermal zone and its many thermal phenomena, still untouched by mass tourism. To explore, you can take Route 427, which links Grindavík to Þorlákshöfn, to discover the deserted southern part of the peninsula. Route 42, 22 km east of Grindavík, links Reykjavik with this picturesque coastal route.
