It was in October 1929 that oil deposits were discovered and the engineers were not quick to install all the equipment necessary for extraction. The infrastructure followed, including the creation of a position for example. Penwell quickly welcomed a thousand inhabitants, most often housed in comfortable barracks, as ephemeral. We felt, maybe, that the adventure wasn't going to last… That didn't prevent promoters from building a hotel, shops, a ballroom. But gradually, with the decline in oil activity, the city was vida. Today, a few people still live there, but there is no longer much to see or do - to say nothing.
