17,500 inhabitants. Puerto Quijarro is a small border town located east of Puerto Suárez. On the other side is Corumbá and Brazil. Located on the Laguna Caceres, which connects with the Paraguay River via the Tamengo channel, Puerto Quijarro is an important river port in Bolivia. It is here that boats leave for the Atlantic Ocean via the Hidrovía Paraná-Paraguay, a waterway that leads to the La Plata estuary in Buenos Aires. The train station is the terminus of the Expreso Oriental. The economy of this transit city revolves around the production of grain. Most of its population is of Chiquitano origin
