This fascinating ghost town in the East MacDonnell Ranges was one of the highlights of the 1887 gold rush.
Arltunga was one of the key places of the gold rush in 1887, which lasted only about twenty years but gave the Red Centre its first town. A hundred miners still came back to try their luck during the economic crisis of the 1930s. Then... almost nothing. This gives today a ghost town in the middle of nowhere, which will fascinate many. Access via a well-maintained track, but need a 4x4 after the rains
