KATAR FACULTY OF ISLAMIC MOSQUE

The Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies (QFIS) University Mosque, in the heart of Education City, boasts impressive futuristic and dizzying lines. This architectural complex of 5,200 tons of steel and 90 meters high points its minarets towards the sky and Mecca. It was built by Mangera Yvars Architects, as a vast cavernous structure, overhung by a large ceiling punctuated by small lights that remind the stars. It can accommodate 1,800 worshippers (inside and out). The concept is to work as a "Kulliyya" or "place where all knowledge is sought" to provide a learning environment for Islamic studies. This building puts Qatar at the forefront of contemporary architecture. The place is filled with poetic symbolism that refers to religion.

Its Islamic garden is imagined as an interpretation of paradise, with the waves of the "four rivers of paradise" described in the Qur'an symbolizing wine, milk, honey and water. The large columns constituting the structure of the mosque symbolize the 5 pillars of Islam. Four minarets frame the structure at 90 meters high. One is impressed by the calligraphy of Koranic verses that line the minarets (designed by the Iranian architect and calligrapher Taha al-Hiti). Verses that "flow" on the walls like streams to the Islamic garden. You can visit the mosque outside prayer hours.
