Located on the east coast of the Isle of Pines, the Bay of Oro is best known for its "natural swimming pool" which is one of the most emblematic sites in the whole of New Caledonia. It is also here that Le Meridien, the only luxury hotel on the island and a true haven of peace in this sumptuous landscape that combines columnar pines, tumultuous ocean and crystal-clear lagoon, has taken up residence. But beyond the tourist aspect, the place is also a legendary mecca for the island tribe of the Kunié, who consider this bay to be sacred, as it is said to house some of the graves of their ancestors. This is why it bears this name, since in the vernacular Oro means "heart".
