The small town of Tsabong, in southwest Botswana, lies at the foot of the first dunes that announce the transboundary park to the west. It is hardly in Botswana anymore, as this area is so connected to border South Africa. Many ethnic groups (Nama, Herero, Bakgalagadi, Barolong, Batlhwere, South Africans, etc.) live and mix here. Nama and Afrikaans as well as Setswana are spoken. For travellers, this town will only be an entrance or exit to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. However, Tsabong presents itself as a small refueling station (fuel, food, bank) and a good stopover town with some quality accommodation. Without particular tourist interest, it is however not without charm. It is particularly known for its famous camel policemen. This practice, which is tending to disappear, could be reborn as a tourist project highlighting these "ships of the desert". To be continued! From Gaborone, take the road leading to Kanye, then to Jwaneng and continue on to Sekoma. When you reach this village, follow the signs to Khakhea, Werda and Tsabong. You will pass by the same road from Sekoma coming from Kang or Ghanzi. From South Africa, there are three border posts leading to Tsabong: Makopong (closest to Johannesburg, open from 6am to 8pm), McCarthy's Rest (closest to Tsabong, open from 8am to 4pm) and Middelpits (same hours as above).
